Nitrate film, made from nitrocellulose, is a material that can spontaneously ignite and burn with its own oxygen – a medium created to preserve, yet at the same time capable of destroying entire archives. Much has been lost due to its instability. Nitrocellulose is also the same chemical base that led Alfred Nobel to develop dynamite. In the form of an audio guide using AI-generated voices that prompted the listener to imagine a set of art works, LATENT explored what should be preserved and what should maybe remain just an idea.
